The papers document Joseph Colin Murphey's career as a writer, teacher and publisher. The papers contain materials related to both his published and unpublished writings and personal journals containing first drafts of his poetry. Also included is correspondence of a both a personal and professional nature, mostly with other writers. Joseph Colin Murphey was born on December 13, 1915 in Lufkin, Texas. He was a professor and a poet. Murphey taught English and Creative Writing at Austin College, Indiana State University, Sam Houston State University and Cooke County College.
